As a lifelong pet owner, I have experienced the joy and heartache of companioning many animals throughout their lifetimes. Over the years my family and I have delighted in sharing our home with cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, fish, geckos, and a never-ending coop full of chickens! The delights of living in an interspecies world are unending, and the relationships we build with our pets are rich in love and companionship. Likewise, the death of a companion animal can be profound, leaving us bereft and unmoored.
As a trained and certified Companion Animal Doula, I am here to offer support, compassion, and resources for you, your family, and your pet throughout your journey together.
I can
- Consult with you to establish and monitor an ongoing Quality of Life scale for your pet
- Assess your home environment to provide accommodations for pet mobility and comfort
- Explore options for palliative or hospice pet care
- Provide Animal Reiki to your pet to relieve pain and anxiety
- Discuss euthanasia options
- Work with you to design ceremonies, such as a living memorial, ritual, or pet funeral to honor your companion animal
- Sit vigil with your pet during their last hours, or accompany your pet during euthanasia
- Provide guidance for burial and/or cremation options
- Offer resources, ideas, and a crafty hand to create physical memorials to your pet
- Be there afterwards to offer compassionate support for you in your grief, and provide resources for acceptance and healing
The bond between a pet and a human is a sacred one, and when a pet is gone, a part of us goes with them.
